Academic Bowl
Academic Bowl is a team-based academic competition that challenges students to use their knowledge, critical-thinking skills, and teamwork to answer questions across a wide range of subjects. Students compete against other schools while putting their knowledge to the test in a fast-paced and exciting environment.
Participating in Academic Bowl helps students strengthen their problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and quick-thinking skills while expanding their knowledge beyond the classroom. It also gives students the opportunity to build confidence, meet other students who share their interests, and represent their school in academic competitions.
Whether students enjoy history, science, literature, math, current events, or a variety of other subjects, Academic Bowl provides a fun and challenging way to learn, compete, and grow.

Bake and Bite
Bake. Bite. Belong.
Bake & Bite Club is a student-led culinary and entrepreneurship club at Dutchtown Middle School, sponsored by Ms. Moore. Our mission is to inspire creativity, leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurship by providing students with hands-on experiences that build real-world skills while serving our school community.
Through Bake & Bite Club, students gain valuable experience in baking, marketing, inventory management, customer service, financial literacy, and business operations. Members work collaboratively to offer and sell baked goods, organize fundraisers, plan special events, and participate in community service projects.
The club encourages students to take ownership of their responsibilities, demonstrate professionalism, develop leadership skills, and build confidence. Each member plays an important role in helping our club succeed while learning the skills they can apply beyond the classroom.

GIRLS RISE
History
The Girls R.I.S.E. Club was discovered by a group of 7thgrade girls in the fall of 2007. After
discussing many topics together, these girls realized that they could benefit from having a program at school, just for them, to talk about issues that were important to them. These girls also wanted to have a program that would help the girls at DMS build each other up, rather than tear them down.
Given a challenge, these girls created the club name, club colors, and the club’s purpose. The first Girls R.I.S.E. club meeting occurred in November, 2007, in the gym during homeroom. There were a total of approximately over 200 6th, 7th, and 8thgrade girls in attendance. In the fall of 2008, the Girls R.I.S.E. Club began meeting afterschool in the Family and Consumer Science classroom.
Through the years, the Girls R.I.S.E. Club has maintained its focus on personal development, service to others, and creating bonds amongst the girls in and outside of the club.
Girls Reaching an Image of Self-Empowerment
Purpose
The purpose of Girls R.I.S.E. is to provide a forum for girls to communicate, share ideas, and enhance their knowledge to cope with the challenges faced as adolescent girls in middle school and beyond.
Vision
Our vision is for girls to be confident, appreciate and accept who they are, be able to create and accomplish personal goals, resolve daily conflicts, and become leaders and role models to their peers at school and in their community.
We believe:
All girls are beautiful, important, and capable of succeeding.
Diversity (within all parameters) should be accepted.
Self-respect, confidence, and love is the foundation of character and healthy choices.
Parents, guardians, school, and community stakeholders are all needed to ensure the development of our girls will prepare them to be functional citizens in society.
We are . . . Girls R.I.S.E.

Reading Bowl
The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl ("HRRB") is a unique reading competition offered to all students at Dutchtown Middle School. The competition was created by Helen Ruffin, a media specialist in DeKalb County, who wanted to increase the love of reading through a fun and exciting competition.
The HRRB competition uses questions from the Georgia Children's Book Award Nominees in a quiz bowl-like format. There are four competitions that take place: District, Regional, Divisional, and State. In each competition, only the top two schools move on to the next level. We are looking forward to giving it our all and doing well throughout the competition rounds.
Official HRRB rules state that only one team can be sponsored by a school. Our team consists of no more than five players and five alternates. Alternates may be switched out between rounds. We select the 'top ten' readers out of those interested based on the following criteria:
- Space is limited to 10 participants and 2 alternates (selection will be based on grade level and behavior)
- Amount of books read (at least 7 of 10 books MUST be read).
- 10 Questions/Answers turned in for each book read.
- Meeting Attendance (no more than 3 absences from weekly practice)
